Built for Chopda Pujan

Chopda Pujan is the trader's Diwali. You close the old books and open a new bahi khata. The first page gets a Shubh Labh and a swastik written on it before any number goes down. In Gujarat and Rajasthan this is the main event of the day, bigger for a lot of families than the evening Lakshmi Puja.

The Ganesh Yantra belongs to that moment. It goes with the books while the first entry is made.

The Vyapar Vriddhi Yantra stays on the counter through the year. It's the piece meant for the selling itself, which is why traders ask for it when they're setting up a shop counter.

The Kuber Yantra goes where the cash is held, since Kuber's domain is stored wealth.

A diya and a coconut is how most shops do this puja. The kit gives you pieces that stay in the shop long after the diya burns out.

Where each piece goes

Counter: the Vyapar Vriddhi Yantra, in the north east of the counter, facing you as you stand at the till. Raised on a small chowki or a wooden base.

Cash drawer or safe: the Kuber Yantra, lying flat with your cash. A standing safe is best placed against the north wall facing south.

Account books: the Ganesh Yantra, kept with the new bahi khata during the puja, then on the shelf above your books or beside the counter.

Entrance: the Shubh Labh sticker on the door frame, and the swastik on the first page of the new book.

Keep all three off the floor. Keep the area around the counter piece clear of bills and keys.

Doing the puja on Diwali morning

Clean the shop and the counter the evening before.

Lay a red cloth on the counter and set the new bahi khata on it, closed.

Wipe all three yantras with a damp cloth and dry them. Apply a kumkum tilak to each.

Write Shubh Labh and a swastik on the first page in kumkum or red ink.

Light a ghee diya and a dhoop. Offer akshat, a flower and something sweet.

Chant Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah 108 times, or the shorter round of 21 if the shop is opening.

Make the first entry in the new book while the diya is still lit. A small token amount is the usual practice.

Put each yantra in its place before you open the shutter.

For a reception counter or director's desk

Want pieces that hold up on a reception counter or a director's desk? Add our Brass Kuber Yantra (3D, 3 x 3 inch base, Rs. 2,499 on its own) and Copper Meru Shree Yantra (1.5 inch 3D, Rs. 1,300 on its own) to your order alongside this kit.

Both are 3D castings that stand on their own, so they hold up as display pieces on a desk.

Add to your order

Free with this kit: a Shubh Labh sticker for the shop entrance.

Paid add-ons at checkout: a red bahi khata if you haven't bought one yet, and a Gomti Chakra pack at Rs. 151 for the cash box.
