Aquarius (Kumbh) Lagna

Kumbh is the eleventh Lagna to ascend the horizon. It is symbolized by a man holding a water pot and is indicative of a person who is fully aware of his duties and is ready to shoulder them. In Kalapurusha or Cosmic Man, it rules the calves. The ruling element of this Lagna is Air. It is a subtle component that stimulates the Aquarian's intellect and level-headedness. Under the influence of this all-pervading element, Kumbh chooses the path that is intelligent and fair.

Saturn is the ruling planet of Kumbh. It is a cold planet, which makes Kumbh detached from the emotions and feelings of others. Saturn rules Aquarius, indicating a practical and serious approach to life. Aquarius will want to maintain balance and moderation in their presentation and activities in order to remain realistic.

Aquarians are great teachers, but again, the lessons come through pain and difficulty, which is why they direct their energies toward preventing problems and pitfalls. Aquarius dwells in the West and is primarily found in places like rivers, springs, rivulets, kitchens, warehouses, and storerooms where water can be stored and kept collected.

The ruling element of this Aquarius Ascendant is Air. Aquarius seeks a fair and intellectual path. Biped in nature, Aquarius is a swift movement. Enabling easy motion, Kumbh is average in its perseverance compared to the four-footed ones but is highly adaptable and versatile.

Aquarius is Diwabali (Diwas- day; Bali- strong) or gets energetic during the day. Its wit and judgment get active under the light of the Sun. With a fixed modality, Kumbh will rarely consider starting a new project, but instead will prefer working on and perfecting the task at hand.

Aquarius is a positive sign that is pointing outward. Kumbh is an action-oriented Rashi who is concerned with external affairs. It will not regress into deep thinking and grave self-reflection but instead strike back with reactivity, throwing itself into some serious activity and performance.

Along with being fixed and airy, Kumbh is a tamasic Rashi. Its exertion, vigorous activity, and force of intellect are meant to prevent the pain and suffering of this life. With an aspiration to nullify all the misery-causing factors and negate the sorrows, Kumbh is tamasic by nature.

The quality of removing the difficulty also makes Aquarius highly "responsible" and "humanitarian" in its approach. The life-giving waters it lets out from its pitcher are primarily directed toward rejuvenating life and its vital functions.

Kumbh presides over Mooldhara chakra. The base, or root chakra, whose function is limitation and detachment, stimulates the Aquarian to build on new things. This chakra, in relation to the air sign, fills the mind of an Aquarian with new ideas that, when implemented, could lead to scientific discoveries, inventions, and revolution on a magnanimous scale.

Standing in the middle of the water, Aquarian rises with its head first making its front rise. Goddess Laxmi, the purveyor of wealth and good luck, is the prime deity of worship for Kumbh.

Aquarius' Lagna encloses the three nakshatras of Dhanistha, Satabhisha, and Bhadra.

Dhanistha is the "Star of the Symphony." The harmony of sounds makes Kumbh highly altruistic and giving by nature. Marked by its benevolence and compassion, Aquarius is driven to do the greater good.

Satabhisha has the "Veiling Star," and its deity is Varuna, the Lord of Waters. It endows Kumbh with humaneness, a natural healing quality, brilliant intuition, and a broader outlook toward life and its happenings.

Bhadra makes Kumbh philosophical, romantic, and charged with great ideas but also leaves it with unsatisfied desires and ambitions.
